Teaching TCP/IP Networking Using Practical Laboratory Exercises
نویسنده
چکیده
Almost any computer science, engineering, and business curriculum includes some basic courses on transmission control protocol/Internet protocol (TCI/IP) networking. Unfortunately, motivating students to learn TCP/IP network fundamentals can be difficult not only because students find the subject rather abstract when it is presented using a lecture format, but also because of very limited resources designed to supplement the teaching of TCP/IP networking is publicly available. Research has shown that students learn TCP/IP networking better, and feel more engaged with their courses, abstRact

Teaching Tcp/ip Networking Using Hands-on Laboratory Experience
This paper reports on the development of new laboratory material that gives students hands-on learning experience in TCP/IP networking. The lab exercises are designed around Linux and are suitable for classroom use in introductory level courses in TCP/IP networking. The effectiveness of these lab exercises has been evaluated both formally by students (student evaluation forms) and informally – ...
متن کاملTeaching TCP/IP Hands-On
Instructors often teach computer networking at the abstract level of protocol definitions, possibly combined with programming exercises concerned with using the socket interface to construct distributed applications. But there’s an alternative. TCP/IP Essentials: A Lab-Based Approach, by Shivendra Panwar, Shiwen Mao, Jeong-Dong Ryoo, and Yihan Li, and Computer Networking: Internet Protocols in ...
متن کاملA Virtual Laboratory for Practical exercises
1 CUI, Université de Genève, {berqia, diop, harms}@cui.unige.ch Abstract Remote teaching and distant learning take more and more a significant place in the universities. However, much of courses do not propose practical exercises. The goal of our project VITELS (Virtual Internet Telecommunications Laboratory of Switzerland) is to develop a course that provides practical exercises in the area ...
متن کاملDesign of a Lightweight TCP/IP Protocol Stack with an Event-Driven Scheduler
The traditional TCP/IP protocol stack is associated with shortcomings related to the context-switching overhead and redundant data copying. The software-based TOE (TCP/ IP Offload Engine), also known as lightweight TCP/IP, was developed to optimize the TCP/IP protocol stack to run on an embedded system. In this paper, we propose the design of a lightweight TCP/IP protocol stack that runs on an ...
متن کاملPerformance Enhancement for Tcp/ip on a Satellite, Channel*
Worldwide usage of the Internet is currently growing atan exponential rate, resulting inadrainatic increase in thedemandfortiie transmission of Internet data via satellite. The TCP/IP protocol suite, which forms the basis of the Internet, performs sub-optimally when confronted with a geostationary satellite link. This may result in poor perj40rmance as seen by an interactive user and/or ine&ici...
